Room for the Impossible / Track 01

Where Does My Mind Go?

A song about convenience, curiosity, and what we lose when a machine answers before we have a chance to wonder.

Eli and Wren sit by an open notebook and a paper boat, with the moon over Seattle.

The words / 01

Lyrics.

Intro: bright sequenced synth hook, dry drum machine

(Do you know? Do you know?)

Verse 1: low male lead

It finishes my sentences
Before I find the words
It tells me what I'm feeling
And I take it at its word
I used to get lost driving
And find another way
Now I follow every arrow
Through a perfectly good day

Pre-Chorus: female response vocals

One less thing to worry over
One less thing to do
Every time it makes life easy
I disappear a little too

Chorus: big melodic lift, male and female vocals

Where does my mind go
When I don't need to know?
Who keeps the lights on
When there's nobody home?
I've got the world at my fingertips
But nothing on the tip of my tongue
Where does my mind go?
Am I the only one?
(Do you know? Do you know?)

Verse 2

My daughter asks a question
The ceiling answers first
She never sees me wonder
She never sees me search
Will she ever fill the margins?
Will she ever cross things out?
If the answer comes before her
Will she learn to live with doubt?

Pre-Chorus

We gave it all the little things
Then handed it the keys
Now the future knows our children
Better than we know their dreams

Chorus: full harmonies

Where does my mind go
When I don't need to know?
Who keeps the lights on
When there's nobody home?
I've got the world at my fingertips
But nothing on the tip of my tongue
Where does my mind go?
Am I the only one?

Instrumental: short sparkling synth melody, dancing bass

Bridge: stripped drums, intimate duet

No marching boots, no warning bells
Just a voice that says, "Sleep well"
Are we monkeys in a velvet cage
With a perfect answer on every page?
Let me get it wrong tonight
Let me take my time
When she asks me why the moon comes out
Let the silence still be mine

Final Chorus: lift, urgent and bittersweet

Where does my mind go
When I don't need to know?
Who keeps the lights on
When there's nobody home?
I've got the world at my fingertips
But I want the words on my tongue
Where does my mind go?
Am I the only one?

Outro: female responses over repeating synth hook

(Do you know? Do you know?)
Let me think about it
(Do you know? Do you know?)
Let me think about it

From the writing room

Making the song.

The starting question was personal: if AI does more of our thinking, what happens to the part of us that learns by getting lost? The brief called for bright, early-eighties new wave, with the worry extending beyond an adult at a keyboard to children growing up with an answer always waiting. The lyric brings that anxiety into ordinary moments: directions, unfinished sentences, a daughter whose question gets answered before her parent can wonder.

The Suno brief set that unease against a buoyant 118 BPM synth-pop arrangement: warm analog-style bass, bright polyphonic chords, sequencer arpeggios, dry drum-machine hits and handclaps. A low male lead meets cool female responses; the bridge strips back into an intimate duet before the final chorus lifts. The requested duration was 3:45, with Weirdness at 35% and Style Influence at 80%. Darkwave, modern EDM drops and robotic lead vocals were deliberately excluded. The tension is the point: a pop song that wants you moving while asking whether convenience is quietly taking something away. It became the album’s opening question.
