Room for the Impossible / Track 10
The Impossible Moved In
A closing invitation to make room for uncertainty, imperfect collaboration, and a future we can help shape.
The words / 10
Lyrics.
Intro - two bars, bright pizzicato synth
Verse 1
There's a city in a biscuit tin
A little train that never ran
A notebook full of someday things
Too many worlds for just two hands
I ask the engine for a wheel
It gives me six; I choose the odd
By Saturday the roofs are real
The kitchen table plays a song
Pre-Chorus
A thousand doors inside a box
I bring the crooked little key
It does the heavy turning
The where and why belong to me
Chorus
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Hung its coat beside the broom
Said, shall we begin?
More than another thing to do
More of the day to wander through
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Verse 2
The little game has learned to fly
My old idea has found its feet
The AI does the tangled sums
I try the wings and mend the seams
Then shut the lid at half past five
There's still a piece of afternoon
We take the long way down the hill
And buy a ridiculous balloon
Chorus
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Hung its coat beside the broom
Said, shall we begin?
More than another thing to do
More of the day to wander through
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Bridge - walking bass, soft handclaps
Keep the silly paper whale
Give the little thing a name
If the first one sinks, we'll make
A stranger one again
Final Chorus - lift, close vocal harmonies
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Hung its coat beside the broom
Said, shall we begin?
More than another thing to do
More of my life to spend with you
I made a little room
And the impossible moved in
Outro - four bars, resolved final chord
Shoes by the door
Room for one more
End

Making the song.
The closer brings the album back to a kitchen table. Its images are deliberately small: a city in a biscuit tin, a little train, a notebook full of someday projects. The engine can produce options and do the tangled sums, but the narrator chooses the odd wheel, tries the wings and decides where the thing should go. After the record’s arguments about work and replacement, this song asks what becomes possible when help creates more room for a life.
The arrangement brief starts with two bars of bright pizzicato synth and ends with a resolved chord. A walking-bass bridge and soft handclaps accompany the return of the paper whale from The Museum of Almost, now something worth keeping and trying again. Close vocal harmonies lift the last chorus, where extra time becomes time to spend with somebody. The sequencing log explicitly chose this track to leave the record on a hopeful note. The ending does not claim that every uncertainty has been solved. It leaves shoes by the door and space for one more person to come in.
